HARRY Wilson is to remain a Red for the foreseeable future.

Wilson, who hails from Corwen, last week signed a new long-term contract with Liverpool.

A known goalscorer, Wilson netted seven goals in 13 appearances in the English second tier as he starred for Hull City on loan between January and the end of last season.

The Wales international has opened pre-season in fine fashion, netting two goals in Liverpool's recent friendly success at Chester and he is now aiming to make an impact at first team level.

Wilson paid tribute to Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp's willingness to give young players a chance after putting pen to paper on his new long-term contract.

Key to his decision was Klopp's trust in Academy starlets, which has been evidenced by Trent Alexander-Arnold's recent breakthrough and several debuts during his tenure.

Wilson told Liverpoolfc.com: "The manager here has shown in the past that he is willing to give young players a chance and I think the young players that he's given a chance to so far have proved him right.

"You look at Trent last season, especially, coming in and doing so well in the team.

"And for him to give me this contract early on in pre-season, that gives me a lot of confidence and I'm hoping I can keep impressing him in pre-season.

"When I moved up to Melwood 18 months or so ago, straight away he made me feel welcome.

"He's very easy to approach and, when he talks to you, he gives you honest advice and it makes you feel good because that's what you want when you go and speak to a manager.

"You want him to be honest with you, tell you where you are, and he does that, definitely."

Meanwhile, Klopp has explained how Wilson's 'exceptional' development in recent seasons prompted Liverpool to move quickly in tying him down to a new contract.

And the Reds boss is looking forward to seeing how a player he believes possesses rare finishing skills continues to improve in the coming years at Anfield.

Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com: "Harry's development in the last few years is really exceptional, so of course we had to keep the boy!

"Now we see what we do with that, but it's really good that his long-term future is, for sure, at Liverpool.

"He's a finisher, which is the most difficult thing to learn, he has the nose for a goal if you want.

"(It's) good news."
