Fewer supplies met a good steady trade throughout, with the strongest lambs at a premium.

MORE lambs forward met with an easier trade due to the adverse weather, topping at £67/head from G Parry, Tegfryn.

Mold primestock sale - July 16

THERE were tremendous entries of beef and cull cows for July.

Beef cattle were slightly back today, while cull cows continue to meet an excellent demand.

Lots of plainer cows were about – and a premium was paid for more meated types.

RUTHIN Farmers' Auction reports sales of 21 store cattle; 18 calves to £400.00; six barren cows to £1,284.80; nine cows and calves to £400.00; four breeding bulls to £3,990.00; 119 ewes for early lamb production to £121.00 and 144 store lambs to £67.50.

Store cattle (auctioneer: Emyr Lloyd):

There were fewer supplies due to time of year, with a very good trade.

Heifers: 25m Limousin to £1,160.00; 26m Hereford to £975.00.

Steers: 21m Limousin to £1,105.00; 25m Hereford to £975.00.

OTM: 74m Limousin cow to £1,242.50; Prices per kilo were at 175ppk, 149ppk and 139ppk. There was a good demand again.

Calves (auctioneer: Richard Lloyd):

Charolais bull to £390.00 by D G Parry; Lim bull to £355.00; Lim heifers to £355.00; Brit Blue heifer to £320.00.

Cows and calves:

There was a good weekly entry of nine cows with calves at foot.

66m British Blue cow with lim x calf at foot to £1,520; 38m Hereford cow with Lim x calf at foot to £1,420; 24m Brit Blue cow with Lim x calf at foot to £1,400; 54m Brit Blue cow with Lim x calf to £1,380.

Breeding bulls (auctioneer: Richard Lloyd):

Another two breeding bulls were entered on the day with very keen demand resulting in the first bull achieving £3,990, followed by another 15m Lim bull from the same farm achieving £2,940.

Ewes for early lamb production:

There were very good entries of ewes again.

It was another steady trade once again, with Texel ewes at £95, Cheviot to £90 and cross bred to £80.

Store lambs:

An increased entry of store lambs was seen with an excellent trade.

Texel to £66, Cheviot to 360, Suffolk to £55 and Charolais to £54. Overall average £52.30.

St Asaph livestock market - July 12

A SMALLER show of lambs met with a good fast trade for all types, with tups selling well and the best lambs were also a lot dearer.

A smaller entry of old ewes were a better trade, with strong Texels to £150/head, mules to £112/head, Suffolks to £145/head and Welsh to £54/head.

Mold stock sale - July 13

DECENT numbers were forward again, with vendors seemingly selling cattle earlier due to the lack of keep.

Trade was holding up well, with some younger cattle being harder to place.

Dairy and calves were similar to previous weeks.

Suckler cattle (3 entries): Sim hfr with LIM bull (3 weeks) calf to 1180; BB cows (8yo) with Sim hfr (3 weeks) calf to 1080.
