FANS of the children's book series about little steam engines have flocked to Bala Lake Railway to meet the author and ride on the real-life trains.

The book series, by author Pauline Hazelwood, tell of the adventures of narrow-gauge steam engines. The series started with a book, titled Alice the Little Welsh Engine, based on a real-life engine from Bala.

Alice attended the event in all her steam train glory with an ever-smiling face.

Originally written in English, Ms Hazelwood's latest book, “Alice Injan Fach o Gymru” is the first Welsh translation and aims to bring the series to a new audience. The book was launched at the event on Saturday, July 28 and, as Pauline is learning Welsh, she was able to speak a few words with some of her new fans.

Meanwhile, star of the show Alice was giving rides in the station at Llanuwchllyn, before joining sister engine “Maid Marian” to pull the last train of the day to Bala and back. Judging by the praise Bala Lake Railway received, a wonderful day was had by all.
