A POPULAR historical exhibition has come to Flintshire.

Thanks to Sophie Fish from Aura, Leisure and Libraries, residents of Flintshire will get a chance to see a range of objects that represent different aspects of our region’s heritage.

The History of North East Wales in 100 Objects exhibition has been organised by the North East Wales Heritage Forum (NEWHF) through funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Items have been loaned from individuals and groups across Flintshire, Denbighshire and Wrexham.

The full exhibition was displayed in Wrexham Museum but, in Flintshire, the display is split across Buckley Museum, Mold Museum and Connah’s Quay Heritage Space.

Industry and everyday life objects are exhibited in Buckley Library, objects related to transport and conflict are in Connah’s Quay Heritage Space and objects related to early inhabitants and religion and culture are in Mold Museum.

Shaun Evans, chairman of NEWHF, said: "The North East Wales Heritage Forum is delighted to be working with Aura to extend the ‘History of North East Wales in 100 Objects’ exhibition.

"This exhibition has enjoyed considerable success at Wrexham Museum over recent months and it's now wonderful to be able to display some of the objects in Flintshire.

"All of the items were selected by local people to reflect what they feel is significant about the region’s heritage - we hope that people will enjoy engaging with some of the most evocative items from our history.

"Many thanks go to all of the groups, organisations and individuals who have allowed us to include items from their collections within the exhibition – without their support this project would not have been possible."

Explaining why the project was considered important enough to be awarded a grant, Richard Bellamy, head of HLF Wales, said: “North East Wales is an area rich in both heritage and culture.

"This ambitious project is not simply about preserving collections– it’s also about making them meaningful and accessible for people today."

The exhibitions will run until November 3. Admission is free and there is an opportunity to take part in a 'mystery object' competition to win prizes.

The exhibition is accompanied by a book The History of North East Wales in 100 Objects, priced £6, that will be available from the venues and other local outlets including The Bookshop in Mold.
