A LLANGOLLEN beauty hotspot has reopened after fire crews blocked the road due to a large mountainside blaze which started more than two weeks ago.
North Wales Fire and Rescue were called to reports of a large inferno on a Llantysilio mountainside, Llangollen, at around 2.20pm on Thursday, July 19.
Crews have been tackling the flames for 18 days and were forced to close nearby roads due to billowing smoke and health and safety concerns for residents and tourists.
A spokesman confirmed that the Horseshoe Pass has now been reopened - but people are still being advised to stay clear of the area.
The fire service posted on Twitter today: "Update on the Llantysilio, Llangollen mountain fire. Crews carried out inspections overnight checking for hotspots. Horseshoe Pass road reopened overnight. Smoke blowing North West.
"Advice remains to avoid mountain for safety. Crews remaining throughout the day."
Firefighters were also forced to close the road between Llantysilio village and the Ponderosa Cafe in both directions following a re-ignition in one area yesterday.
A Tweet read: "Please avoid the area while crews work. Keep off the mountain."
