FIRE crews continue to damp down a huge mountainside blaze which has been burning for almost three weeks.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service has been battling the blaze in Llangollen - which began in Llantysilio - since July 19.

The damage was confirmed to have spread to at least 250 hectares and firefighters have remained at the scene day and night in order to monitor and prevent it spreading.

A spokesman for the fire and rescue service said that there were two appliances from Wrexham and an incident command unit at the scene, where firefighters continue to damp down hotspots and monitor the area.

The incident has seen the closure of the Horseshoe Pass for extended periods of time, as well as the evacuation of the Ponderosa Cafe due to the spread of smoke and flames.

Firefighters have also been supported by generous members of the public, who have donated refreshments and cash to provide food and drinks as they deal with the incident.
