GENTLEMEN from a Rotary club have wound back the years at one of Denbighshire's most popular sports clubs.

Members of Denbigh Rotary Club visited Denbigh and Ruthin Gymnastics Club to enjoy a display by some of its brightest athletes and learn about its history – and even had a go themselves.

The not-for-profit club provides lessons and activities for more than 500 children and adults every week.

On their visit on Tuesday, August 7, the Rotary men were treated to a gymnastics performance and had the chance to talk to club leaders about its history and ambitions for the future.

Hywel Roberts, Denbigh Rotarian, said: “We were treated to a superb gymnastic display by Lauren, Anya and Seren as head coach Tamsin Jones and director Heather Clayton explained the history of the club and its current aims.

“The club has a vision of gymnastics for all and is a non-profit making company dedicated to the sport, currently catering for 550 individuals every week.

“Whilst the majority of pupils are children there is an adult class as well, with the aim of increasing fitness, learning new skills through a competent coaching programme, team work and encouraging young gymnasts to learn how to teach others.

“The enthusiasm of the staff and pupils was obvious and enough to encourage the Rotary President Kevin Roberts to give his own display on the parallel bars! It was a very enjoyable and informative visit.”

The club moved from Denbigh Leisure Centre to its new premises on Erw Las in Denbigh in July 2017 which allowed for a surge in members due to increased capacity.

Ms Jones, who has helped to run the club for fourteen years, said: “What a fantastic bunch of people who came to show their genuine interest in our club inviting us to share our vision and history.

“We were humbled by such an open show of support and such a great sense of humour.

“We’re looking forward to having them back to one of our community events.”

Denbigh and Ruthin Gymnastics Club is currently taking on members under seven-years-old, particularly pre-school ages. For more information visit their website at www.ruthin-denbighgymnasticsclub.co.uk
