THE weather couldn’t rain on this parade.

Pig Fest returned to Denbigh this summer for a fun-filled day out for all the community.

Many stalls offering glitter tattoos, toy stores, charity items, cakes and food from Denbigh businesses were available to the crowds.

Music artists from the area provided a range of genres such as reggae, country and dance, followed by top-of-the-bill Lukeband, from Denbigh, which sounded out until the end of the night at 10.30pm. There was also a star performances from youngster Nathan Cooper, aged 12.

Bringing the heat elsewhere was a fire performer, while an arts and crafts area, bouncy castle and games for children.

Catherine Jones, mayor of Denbigh and member of the eight-person Pig Fest organising committee, said: “It went very well.

“We did see some rain but that didn’t dampen the atmosphere. I think it actually added to it.

“There was a great bunch of people of various ages, families and older generations which was nice to see.”

An event introduced for the first time this year was the sausage roll eating competition, dedicated to the memory of Linda Messham, Pig Fest organising committee member and staff member of J Williams & Co butchers in Denbigh, who provided the sausage rolls.

Cllr Jones said: “Linda was a fun, loving person and we wanted to hold an event in her memory and decided on a sausage roll eating competition as she worked at J Williams in the town.

“The sausage rolls were rather spicy so the contestants really did well to eat them!

“The competition will now take place every year at Pig Fest.”
