THE Meirionnydd branch of the FUW is looking forward to a busy day at the county show next week.

Taking place next Wednesday, August 22, the show will be held at the Rhug Estate in Corwen.

The Meirionnydd County Show this year will be a very special occasion, as it is celebrating 150 years since its establishment.

The first county show was held at the Rhiwlas Estate, Bala in 1868.

FUW Meirionnydd county executive officer Huw Jones said: “We look forward to discussing #FarmingMatters and #FairFarmFunding at the stand with our members and elected politicians and extend a warm welcome for members, guests and friends of the FUW as in previous years to join us on the day."

Dwyfor Meirionnydd AM Dafydd Elis-Thomas will be present at the stand between 12 and 1pm, and Liz Saville Roberts MP will be present between 2 and 3pm to meet union officials and individual members.

This year, the main topic of conversation will undoubtedly be the consultation paper Brexit and Our Land: Securing the Future of Welsh Farming.

Union officials, staff and FUW president Glyn Roberts will be on hand to answer questions members may have.

In addition, joining the FUW on the day are FWAG director Dr Glenda Thomas (11am-12pm) and Farming Connect Meirionnydd development officer Eryl P Roberts (1-3pm).

North Wales Police and Crime Commissioner Arfon Jones will also be present, together with Constable Dewi Evans and members of the Rural Crime Team.

Representatives of the union’s chosen charities will be present at the stand throughout the day, namely Alzheimer’s Society Cymru and the Farming Community Network.

They will be raising awareness of their work in rural areas.

As in previous years, staff and representatives of FUW Insurance Services Ltd will be on hand to answer any questions or queries from members and clients as required.
