TWO fire extinguishers have been deliberately set off in a church.

It is understood a group of teenage males entered a church in Corwen on Tuesday, August 21 and deliberately set off two indoor fire extinguishers.

The church, the Corwen Parish Church of St Mael and St Sulien, a thirteenth century Grade II-listed building, is kept open during the day for public use.

Canon Martin Snellgrove, who oversees the church, said: "On Tuesday, soon after the church warden had cleaned the church a group of lads entered and discharged two fire extinguishers.

"We have suspicions as to who as they are known to cause minor trouble.

"We are now reluctant to leave the church open, which is a pity because it is appreciated by visitors from the area and across the world."

The canon said he believe the males were in their "late teens".

No permanent damage was caused to the church and the foam and water discharged from the fire extinguishers has now evaporated.

The canon said North Wales Police are investigating the incident.

The Free Press has contacted the police and are awaiting comment.
