Cricketing chiefs are expected to make a decision on a fight that happened during a match in St Asaph ‘within three weeks’.

The unsavoury incident happened on Saturday in a match between hosts St Asaph and Northop in the North Wales Cricket League.

Tempers were frayed when St Asaph opening batsman Matt Ryan was dismissed, caught by Northop’s Jordan Evans off the bowling of James Birch.

Players were seen exchanging words in the middle of the pitch before clashing.

Two players grappled with each other and the batsman’s helmet was knocked off during the scrap.

Neither officials or players at St Asaph or Northop were prepared to comment on the incident, while league chairman Bob Sugden is currently away and umpires liaison Paul Jones has only just returned to the country.

North Wales League treasurer Richard Penny did confirm that the governing body were aware of the incident and that an outcome on the skirmish will be made within three weeks.

He said: “The North Wales Cricket League management committee are aware of reports in the media of an incident in the St Asaph versus Northop match.

“No comment will be made until such time as reports from the panel umpires are received by the nominated members of the committee and any required process for breached of league rules have run their course.”
