AN ANNUAL bike ride has led to the installation of a defibrillator - outside a pub.

The ‘Goldie Ride’ - connected with Golden Lion in Llangynhafal, Denbigh - has become something of a tradition. Ever year, locals at the pub undertake an annual bike ride.

This year’s ride was themed The Great Little Trains of North Wales.

A three day ride took place around the wider Snowdonia area, passing by the homes of all the narrow gauge steam trains. The route travelled to the lake railway at Bala, passed over the infamous Bwylch y Groes, and then on to Corris, which has a preserved slate railway.

The second day took in the railways at Tywyn, Fairbourne, Porthmadog and Caernarfon. The final day, the route took in the two at Llanberis on the way home, via Pen y Pass to Llangynhafal.

Rob Hammond, who organised the ride, said: "The ‘Goldie Ride’ has become something of a local tradition, with the 2015 event, when golden bikes started to appear all over the Vale, raising over £17,000 for Gobowen Orthopaedic Hospital.

"After the death of one of the regulars from a heart attack, it was decided to raise money for the purchase of a defibrillator to be placed on the side of the pub."

In conjunction with Denbigh Rugby Club, who conducted a sponsored 24 hour ride around Llyn Brenig, money has been raised for a second defibrillators in Hendrerwydd.

Mr Hammond added: "Adding to the existing machines in Llandyrnog and Gellifor, this has gone some way towards the aim of getting a defibrillator in all the villages in the Vale."

The defibrillator was presented to the pub by Nick Aitken, from charity Welsh Hearts.

An evening’s training on the machine was also given.
