A FIRST-TIME flyer will be hoping for the perfect landing when he takes to the skies for charity.

Iwan Davies, aged 23, who works for Denbighshire County Council’s tourism team, will complete a charity fundraiser 10,000ft sky dive on his first ever flight.

The former pupil at Ysgol Brynhyfryd, Ruthin, is hoping to raise £40,000 in memory of friend Jessica Law, from Bryneglwys, who was diagnosed with a cloaca anomaly and renal failure.

The funds will be donated to Alder Hey renal unit, Wrexham Maelor renal unit, Ronald McDonald House Liverpool and Ty Gobaith.

Mr Davies, who lives in Denbigh, said: “Jessica was a well-loved young lady who adored her family and sadly passed away in August last year age 23.

“Her friends and family have decided to raise funds for Jessica to be shared with the key charities and hospitals that supported her and her family.

“I don’t know what to expect having never been in a plane before and I’m trying not to ask too many questions before the day. Jumping out of a plane on my first ever flight isn’t something I thought would happen.”

As well as Iwan, Jessica’s sister, Rachel Law and friends Amy Megan and Sinead Martina Morris will take part in the sky dive on October 19 at Whitchurch, Shropshire.

Rachel, 21, also a former Ysgol Brynhyfryd pupil, said: “As a family we are hoping to raise £40,000 over the next two years. There are lots of fundraising activities taking place and the sky dive is something I’m really looking forward to as it’s something I’ve always wanted to do. Doing it in memory of my sister and raising money for four amazing charities makes it more exciting.

“Jessica was always so brave in facing her fears, so me doing this is to show her how much she meant to me and because of her I will face my fears everyday too.

"I know she would be so proud watching me do this. She really was the best big sister.”
