The Rhos-on-Sea Rotary Club has joined forces with the North Wales Pioneer to once again brighten up the Cayley Promenade this Christmas.

The Tree of Lights will return to Rhos-on-Sea, marking the 20th occasion this spectacle has featured on the promenade.

The aim is to give everyone the opportunity to celebrate or commemorate the lives of loved ones or to celebrate a special occasion or meaningful event by purchasing a light for the tree.

Every light purchased will raise funds for Llandudno-based charity St David's Hospice.

The tree has become an annual feature and a part of Christmas within the community.

The Rotary Club said the annual ‘switching on’ ceremony is a highlight on their and St. David’s Hospice calendar.

The Tree of Lights, since it started has raised more than £209,000, £26,000 of which was raised last Christmas alone.

Rotary president, Clive Hampton, said the club hoped to reach the quarter of a million mark this year.

Mr Hampton said: “Through the Rotary Tree of Lights, every penny donated will go to St. David’s Hospice supporting the vital work they do for our Communities.

"Our lighting up ceremony is a special event for us, the Hospice and the public and we hope many will turn up once again.

"This though is much more than fundraising.

"Most of us have lost loved ones and feel the need at times to commemorate that and dedicate a little time now and again for remembrance so that it brings us some degree of comfort to our busy lives at a time of year that can be difficult for many.

"We are so very grateful for all the generous support of the public and the North Wales Pioneer in this important venture."

The lights will be illuminated at a special ceremony on the Cayley Promenade, Rhos on Sea at 4.30 pm on Sunday, November 25.

Cor Meibion Colwyn and the Beulah Brass Band will also be performing at the switch on.

The Mayor of the Bay of Colwyn, Cllr Stephen Williams will switch on the lights.

Mr Hampton added: "We hope to have a good attendance once again to launch this year’s initiative - weather permitting."
