POLITICIANS have heaped praise onto 'exciting' plans for the development of Denbigh’s historic former Butter Market following a recent site visit.

Vale of Clwyd MP, Dr James Davies and Gareth Davies MS, toured the building and discussed the ambitious plans for its conversion.

The building, which was most recently used by Denbigh College, has now been acquired by Vale of Clwyd Mind as a community health well-being centre.

It will also become a hub for cultural and tourism activity and house Denbigh Museum and Community Archive as well as become a base for Age Connect and Mentor laith Sir Ddynbich.

The project, which is being supported by Grwp Cynefin, will provide a community café and become an accessible building for the local community.

Following the tour, Dr James Davies and Gareth Davies issued a joint statement expressing their full support for the future plans and stated: "This culture, heritage and wellbeing project is an exciting development which will be a real asset to the local community. It will benefit residents, visitors and the service users of Vale of Clwyd Mind, Age Connect and Mentor Laith Sir Ddynbich.

"There is already ongoing work to regenerate Denbigh and this project will be instrumental in progressing that by encouraging more visitors to the town and helping to boost the local economy.

"We are always pleased to see historic building brought back into use and really hope this project will receive the support it deserves."

CEO of Vale of Clwyd Mind, Paul Moore thanked all those present for attending the tour and for their support in putting together complex plans and a vision for the building which will put the town ‘on the map’.

He said: "It’s not often possible to bring together a range of different people and organisations and within one plan support so many aspects of improving the lives of individuals and a whole community. As an organisation we are proud and delighted to be leading this innovative project."

Also present were Mair Edwards and Buddug Jones from Grwp Cynefin who support the project in Denbigh; Chair of Vale of Clwyd Mind, Clwyd Wynne and local councillor and businessman Mark Young who is also a longstanding Trustee of Vale of Clwyd Mind.
