AN ONLINE meeting next weekend will take place to mark the start of National Hate Crime Awareness Week in the UK.

A variety of speakers, including Andy Dunbobbin, Police and Crime Commissioner for North Wales, and Professor Iwan Davies, vice chancellor of Bangor University, will talk at the meeting, which will be held via Zoom on Saturday, October 9.

It will begin with a welcoming message from David Jones, MP for Clwyd West, who will provide an update on the work carried out at NWAMI (formerly known as the North Wales Association for Multicultural Integration)’s Commonwealth Research Centre, which launched 12 months ago.

Mark Isherwood MS, the president of NWAMI, will also speak about the group’s mission and how it could support Afghan and Iraqi refugees and asylum seekers to integrate into mainstream society.

Professor Davies will later talk about the importance of the Commonwealth countries working in solidarity towards the welfare of displaced people.

The event will be chaired by Judge Ray Singh CBE, an independent member of the Velindre NHS Trust and a qualified judge.
