It’s all White on the night!

MARVELLOUS Mark Webster is being tipped to cause some damage at the richest tournament in darts.

A superb Monday night display at London’s Alexandra Palace saw the Denbigh destroyer surge into the second round of the £1 million Ladbrokes World Darts Championship with a 3-1 victory versus Ian White.

His beaten opponent said: "Mark played very well and it was hard to keep up with him in the first set.

"If he plays like that then he's going to go a long way in the tournament but, for me, it's been a good year."

The impressive victory was achieved with a superb 97 average,

And the omens are good that the next few weeks could be successful for Mark, who has gone on to reach the semi-finals of the event on each occasion he has won in the first round.

Seeded number 10, Webster has endured a tough 12 months since his last Alexandra Palace appearance and he shared 14 180s with White, who was the leading qualifier from the ProTour Order of Merit for the World Championship.

However, Mark took out 124 and 107 as he took the first set 3-1 and he landed a trio of maximums by taking the second without reply.

Webster also came from 2-1 down to level in the third, only to miss eight match darts in the deciding leg as White kept himself in the game.

The former Lakeside champion replied with a brilliant 145 checkout to open the fourth set and he won the next two legs in 14 and 13 darts to complete the triumph.
