A DENBIGHSHIRE restaurant has been given a national accolade.

Rhug Estate’s Bison Grill near Corwen has been named 'Best on Farm Restaurant' in the UK at the FARMA awards.

“It’s a great reward for twelve months of really hard work since we first opened and to have this success is real recognition that all our hardwork has paid off,” said Craig Stubbs, operational manager.

The winners of the 2013 UK Farm Retail Awards from FARMA (The National Farmers’ Retail and Markets’ Association) were announced at an awards ceremony as part of the industry’s flagship event, Farm and More, at the Majestic Hotel in Harrogate.

The Bison Grill is a 60 seat restaurant which is located on the site of Rhug Farm and includes amongst its menu dishes using meat from the estate’s bison.

The herd has become a tourist attraction in the Corwen area and there is a walk that takes you round the field where the bison live.

The awards, which were presented by Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, recognise farm shops, farmers’ markets, pick-your own and farm destination sites, which stand out from the crowd.

“These businesses have won the admiration and allegiance of many people in their communities as great places to shop, and these awards now recognise their excellence as retailers, farmers and producers,” said Rita Exner, FARMA secretary.

“It’s an achievement of which they can all be very proud.”
