Staff reporter (Leader Live)

A crash which led to a man’s death may have happened more than 16 hours before it was reported.

North Wales Police said it was believed that the man, who was local to the Flintshire area, crashed at about 7.30pm off Ruthin Road in Loggerheads on Saturday night.

Officers were not called to the scene until shortly before noon on Sunday where it was reported a grey BMW car had been found in a hedge.

Emergency services went to the scene and a man was found dead in the vehicle.

Police are now appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Sgt Nicola Collins from the Roads Policing Unit said: “We are appealing to anybody who may have seen the grey coloured BMW travelling on the A494 from the direction of Llanferres towards Mold prior to the collision to contact us.”

The road was closed for several hours on Sunday while police officers carried out investigation work.

Anybody with information that could assist the investigation is asked to call the Roads Policing Unit on 101 or via the live web chat quoting reference number V031092.
