Governors, staff, pupils and parents of Ysgol Llanbedr are celebrating the findings in the Gwella Inspection of Church in Wales schools report, which judged the school to be a good school across all the inspection criteria.

Ysgol Llanbedr, which is situated near Ruthin, fulfilled “all the statutory requirements for collective worship and religious education”, according to the report.

Ysgol Llanbedr is a Church in Wales voluntary controlled primary school, providing education for children aged from three to 11 years. There is also pre-nursery care, before and after school care, and a holiday club available at Munchkins, a dedicated childcare facility on-site.

The Gwella Report follows the inspection carried out in February, alongside the Estyn inspection, the report from which is awaiting publication.

Among the findings, the report highlights the distinctiveness and effectiveness of Llanbedr as a Church in Wales school that is “good at meeting the needs of all learners”.

It states: “Llanbedr has a genuine Christian caring ethos permeating throughout the school, which impacts positively on the health and well-being of staff and pupils alike, providing a very good basis for teaching and learning to take place.”

The school’s established strengths were noted to include the excellent behaviour and attitude of the children, and the high standard of collective worship and the Christian leadership of the acting headteacher, the assistant headteacher and governors.

Sue Van Loock, acting headteacher, said the report reflected the hard work and commitment of everyone at the school.

Mrs Van Loock said: “We are proud of our caring and nurturing learning environment which successfully incorporates our church school status. Our pupils are happy, confident, caring, and can express themselves eloquently. Alongside academic achievement, these are all important qualities to establish at primary school age.

“It is fantastic to see that our vision, and the high standards we set ourselves, have been acknowledged in this report. We are now looking forward to receiving the feedback from the Estyn inspection when that report becomes available.”

Julie Baddock, chair of governors, said that the Gwella Report confirmed the governors’ full commitment to the Christian values of the school.

“We are all extremely pleased with this report which recognises the staff efforts in ‘providing pupils with the best possible education both spiritually and academically’. The school can be very proud of its achievements.”
