AN internationally renowned musician has given her support to a floral event at a venue that is under threat.

Supporters of one of Wales’ oldest churches, which is threatened with closure, are hosting a flower festival from September 2-4 to raise vital funds.

The theme of the festival at Llannefydd Church is ‘inspirational Welsh women’ and Catrin Finch, the internationally acclaimed harpist, has sent a message of support.

In the message, she said: "All my most colourful best wishes full of hope for change and strength to endure, for a wonderful festival and the future of Llannefydd Church.

"My inspiration comes from people and positivity, and I hope the Church is filled with both."

The flower show opens at 10am this Friday, September 2, and closes at 4pm on Sunday, September 4.

It will then be followed by an evening service in the church with the Right Reverend Mary Stallard, Archbishop of Bangor, at 6pm.

One of the organisers, Kate Tindle, said: "It has been heart-warming to receive so much support from across Wales, whether this is sponsorship from local businesses, or the generosity of flower arrangers."

"There is no entry fee, but donations and the sale of refreshments will help keep one of Wales’ most important medieval churches open," said Sue Ellis, the festival’s sponsorship coordinator.

As well as spectacular floral displays, there will also be an exhibition on the life of local Tudor celebrity, Katheryn of Berain, one of the festival’s inspirational Welsh women - who is buried in the church.
