A RUTHIN restaurant has been handed a new one-out-of-five food hygiene rating.

Small Plates, a restaurant at 5 Upper Clwyd Street, was given the score after assessment on March 7, the Food Standards Agency's website shows.

The inspection report on the restaurant rated its hygienic food handling and cleanliness and conditions of building and facilities ‘generally satisfactory’, while its management of food safety was rated ‘major improvement necessary’.

The restaurant has a good reputation, with a TripAdvisor rating of 4.5 after 112 reviews, the most recent review praising the staff, drinks and saying the food was “incredible”.

It means that of Denbighshire's 260 restaurants, cafes and canteens with ratings, 177 (68 per cent) have ratings of five and just two have zero ratings.
