WORKS have begun to introduce a series of active travel enhancements in Denbigh.

The works are being carried out by Denbighshire County Council and grant funded from the Welsh Government Active Travel Fund specifically for the improvement of “active travel”.

They aim to reduce the number of short everyday journeys that are undertaken in motor vehicles, and increase levels of active travel in Denbighshire.

These enhancements will create safer walking and cycling routes to key amenities and enable people to make healthier, greener, and cheaper travel choices.

The active travel improvements began in February and will conclude by spring. The works will include:

  • A priority junction at the Rhyl Road/Ffordd Colomendy junction.
  • New toucan crossings on the Denbigh by-pass arm of the ATS roundabout.
  • Widening of footways on Rhyl Road.
  • Remodelling the Rhyl Road/Llys Gwydyr junction to reduce vehicle speeds.

Cllr Barry Mellor, lead member for environment and transport, said: “The introduction of a series of new active travel enhancement is a welcome addition to Lower Denbigh.

“Not only is the active travel creating safer walking and cycling routes for our most vulnerable road users such as the elderly and children, but it will also encourage residents to lower their carbon footprint by choosing to walk over driving short distances.”
