A MAJOR project is underway in Llangollen to ask local people how they want to improve their town.

Questionnaires are being delivered to every home asking residents what they like and dislike about Llangollen, how they use local amenities, what they worry about and the impact of tourism.

The project is the brain-child of Denbighshire county councillor, Lucy Morris, who is urging householders to complete the questionnaire and return it as soon as possible.

Councillor Morris from Grange Road, Llangollen said: “The questionnaires are the first stage in the process of giving local people a say in their own town’s future.

“It focuses on how Llangollen looks, how people make use of the shopping, business and leisure facilities and how tourism and congestion impacts on their lives.”

A special Town Plan team has been assembled to co-ordinate the project.

The five members, plus volunteers, have been delivering the questionnaire to every house in Llangollen and surrounding area.

Results from the questionnaires will be analysed and used to inform a series of consultation meetings to be held in Llangollen in the autumn.

After that, the Town Plan team will draw up a list of priorities, based on the wishes of local people, which will be presented to Denbighshire County Council and the Welsh Assembly Government.

Both bodies will be asked to support the priorities identified by residents and provide funding.

Councillor Morris added: “This is thought to be the most comprehensive and wide-ranging survey of local opinion ever carried out in Llangollen.

“It will directly influence the decision making in the town over the next five to 10 years.”

Alongside the residents’ questionnaire, a survey of local businesses has been carried out.

Early results from that indicate improved town parking and a reduction in business rates would benefit town centre shops.
