WE may be in the middle of a recession but that has not stopped Denbighshire residents spending big on 'sexy' treats as the county is voted 37th sexiest in the UK.

Gwynedd pips its neighbours, coming in 32nd in a new survey by online retailer LoveHoney.co.uk which reveals who spends the most on sex related merchandise and what people are buying.

In a breakdown Denbigh is just second behind Rhyl in the county's top towns for spending over the national average on their sex lives.

LoveHoney said nationally Denbigh is ranked 164th sexiest place in the UK and spends the most on adult DVDs.

Denbigh mayor Ian Davies said: "As Mayor of Denbigh I am pleased that my home town is considered sexy. What I would highlight is that adults having fun are being safe and legal.

"But whatever people get up to in their own homes is their business and private - not matters for the local council."

Adults in the UK spend an average of £6.57 on their sex lives every year and in total Brits spend a staggering £315million each year on lingerie and adult toys/gifts.

The online retailer has developed an interactive 'sex map' which uncovers the nation's sexy shopping habits and shows residents in Corwen are not parting with their money on romantic treats as easily.

Corwen is ranked lowest in the county at 905th but spends the most on fetish clothing.
Ruthin is the 454th sexiest place in the UK and spends most on Erotic Books.

The top spending towns in Denbighshire (with spend related to the national average) are:

• Rhyl: 1.6 times
• Denbigh: 1.4 times
• Prestatyn: 1.0 times
• Ruthin: 1.0 times
• Corwen: 0.4 times

Sex expert and the report author Tracey Cox said: "I’m not surprised at all that people in Denbighshire are spending up big on sexy items given the current economic climate.

“If you can't afford to go out, there's only so much telly you can watch!

“It's a positive for relationships - it shows an openness and willingness by the people in Denbigh to make an effort to try new things.”
