A POLICEMAN has said the “community spirit glass is very full” in the Ruthin area.
PC2275 Osian Davies has been in post as the Ruthin rural community beat manager for five months.
“I have in this short time come to realise that the community spirit glass is very full and with a partnership approach we can keep it that way,” he said.
“My only advice to you is to keep alert and maintain a good level of home security.”
He said that householders should consider using CCTV, and signs warning of its use, at their properties.
Outside sensor lighting and gravel at points of entry to a property were also an option.
“I’ve not heard of somebody who can cross gravel quietly,” he said.
Becoming a member of a Neighbourhood Watch scheme or, if there was not one, becoming a coordinator was also helpful. “It’s free, effective and a good deterrent,” he said.
Other deterrents included a house alarm and a dog. “Never mind what the breed, advertise the fact that he or she lives with you.”
Some residents had said that they never saw a police officer, said PC Davies.
“That has changed and I am about your village as often as I can be, so word to the wise, I am about, expect any offences to be dealt with accordingly.
“The Ruthin area is one of the safest areas to live so let’s keep it that way.
“If you wish to communicate in Welsh please do so as I am a fluent Welsh speaker.”
