LLANFAIRPWLL 1
RUTHIN TOWN 2

TWO first-half strikes did the trick for Ruthin Town as the race to become Vale of Clwyd football’s top dogs hots up.

Just a few months back Denbigh Town were flying and they looked certain to finish the season above their Vale of Clwyd rivals.

But things change quickly in football and Ruthin’s 2-1 success at Llanfairpwll means that they’re now just three points behind Denbigh in the Cymru Alliance standings, with FOUR games in hand.

Kevin Garland had Ruthin in front after 28 minutes to set the visitors on their way and the same player doubled the lead five minutes later.

Iwan Williams pulled one back for Llanfairpwll on the stroke of half-time, but Adie Jones’ charges managed to keep themselves in front throughout the second period.

On the player front, it’s a case of one in and one out at Ruthin.

Ben Collins has decided to take up a good offer to move to fallen giants Caernarfon Town and start a fresh challenge.

Once again, team boss Adie Jones has reacted quickly in replacing him with Eilir Edwards from Corwen.

“I was disappointed to see Ben leave,” said Jones. “He has been with me from the start since I took over here at Ruthin when they were bottom in February 2008 and played a big part in keeping this club up, and then achieving a top-six finish last year.

“But I wish him all the best for the future - he’s a good player and a great lad.”

On the capture of Eilir Edwards, Jones added: “I’m looking forward to working with him again - we have needed someone like him.”
