AN EYESORE on the Denbigh streets is finally being given a makeover after seven years of being stood derelict and decaying.
Mostyn House on Vale Street (pictured right) is a huge three storey detached property that has seen many changes in its life.
The house has been a shop, a dentists and a solicitors office to name a few but this week work has finally begun on restoring the house to its former glory.
Building contractor's Milrick Ltd signed a contract last April with Mostyn House Ltd and completed the deal recently.
Milrick director, John Franklin, said Mostyn House will be the sole project for up to two years for the company.
"It has sat derelict for seven years and was not repaired, " said Mr Franklin.
Two weeks ago Mr Franklin officially bought the property for just over £50,000 and work began on the house last Friday.
"We are now carrying out investigation work to find out what is in the house, we have not yet seen the roof, we just don't know what's in there."
The house is believed to have been used as the main town house for the Mostyn family who for the past 500 years the history of the family has been closely intertwined with Llandudno.
It is thought the Denbigh house dates back to the Georgian period and was built in 1721 and still has some of the original panelling and original staircases.
A coat of arms is still visible above the front entrance which is believed to have been the Mostyn family coat.
Mr Franklin is Denbigh born and said like many residents he is happy the house will no longer be an eyesore.
"A lot of people are talking about it in the town, this project and the old police station where I believe there is good news coming out of there aswell.
"Mostyn House is going to be one very interesting project, I am going to enjoy renovating it and we hope to restore it back to its former glory," said the 55 year-old builder.
Mr Franklin added he is pleased all local workers and companies are being used in the project.
Charted Building Surveyors Wynn Rogers, whose offices are located opposite Mostyn House, is managing the project.
Director of Wynn Rogers, Alun Jones, is the project manager and said the house will be kept as one dwelling and he hopes to restore the brickwork and its original five window feature on the front of the property.
