THE sentencing of Robert Ivan Owen may have brought some closure to his victims and their families.

But recent figures are showing a worrying trend in the number of paedophiles being prosecuted and jailed are hitting record numbers.

In December the Free Press reported on the spate of child sex offence charges that had been heard in court within one month.

During this time, a number of men appeared on separate child sex offence charges, ranging from assault, gross indecency and sexually touching children to possessing indecent photographs of minors.

All pleaded not guilty to their respective charges and all face trials at crown court.
Now Nicholas Anthony Stubley, 43, has admitted that he distributed child porn between January 2003 and November of last year.

Stubley, formerly of London Road, Shrewsbury, but now living in a hotel in Lichfield Road, Stafford, had been sent to the crown court by Denbigh magistrates.

In addition to the distribution charge, he pleaded guilty to 16 charges of making indecent images of children aged between four and 13 when he appeared in the dock at Mold Crown Court.

He was bailed by Judge John Rogers  pending sentence.

In the meantime, he was ordered to register with the police as a sex offender.
2009 also saw four high profile convictions, two involving teachers from the area.

In February former teacher Robert Edward Bill, 55, from St Asaph was found guilty of making and possessing pornographic images of children.
He is appealing against his six year sentence.

James Marvin Jones, 38, from Ruthin, started a four year prison sentence in February after grooming a young girl while on a sex offenders programme.

In May James Robert Burnett, 28 from Ruthin was jailed for three years after sexually assaulting a 14 year-old boy he met on the internet.

Former Denbigh High School teacher Ian Gee was given a three year community order after he was found guilty of downloading 171 indecent images of children.

Now truck driver Robert Owen from Denbigh, has been jailed for eight years for sex offences against children spanning four decades.
