RHYL 6
BALA 16

IT was a case of job done for Bala as their penultimate SWALEC League Division Two (North-North) encounter ended on a positive.

Needing to beat Rhyl to keep pace with promotion rivals Bethesda, that’s just what the men from Maes Gwyniad managed as they strengthened their hopes of gaining a swift return to Division One (North).

Two Gareth Owen penalties had the visitors 6-3 to the good at the break and although Rhyl hit back to level in the second period, Bala moved clear with the game’s only try.

That was scored by Clwyd Edwards and with Gareth Owen adding the extras, the Gwynedd side were suddenly in the clear.

Owen had a further three penalty attempts to stretch his side’s advantage, but with the Rhyl crowd in vociferous form he failed to convert any of them.

However, Owen was to have the last word as he managed to kick his third successful penalty of the day late on to deny Rhyl a losing bonus point.

With just one match in the section left to complete, Bala look well set to forge a Division Two (North) promotion push when the play-offs get underway in early March.
