Anyone ‘kicking off’ or abusing take away owners will be barred from ALL pubs and take away restaurants in Denbigh.

In an effort to tackle anti-social behaviour after pubs have closed, police are combining the successful Pub Watch scheme with a new Take-Away Watch.

North Wales Police Sergeant Andrew Hunter said one premises in particular has received a lot of after hours 'bother.'

"Take aways are open when everybody is shut and staff get abuse from drunks," said Sgt Hunter.

"Denbigh has a very successful Pub Watch scheme and we now want to combine the take away watch with it."

The scheme means if anyone causes trouble in Denbigh take aways they will automatically get banned from all the pubs in Denbigh.

The message from police in the campaign is 'kick off in here, no ifs, no buts, you're barred from the take away and all the pubs.'

Sgt Hunter said he started work on the Denbigh Take Away and Pubwatch scheme last month and approached the eateries then pub licensees with the idea and received wholehearted supported.

Sgt Hunter said take away owners would now be given police protection.
"We  will manage it and will present any cases at the monthly meetings unlike in Pubwatch when the licensee of the pub would have to go to the committee meetings to give evidence,” he explained.

"I am offering protection to the take aways... they have not asked for it."

Denbigh Safety Group chairman Rob Parkes said he welcomes the new scheme.

“I think it's a fantastic idea, there is obviously a problem as they would not have to bring in a scheme like this. I don't think people who work in fast food outlets should be abused just because people have had too much to drink,” he said.

"Anyone who is fair and level headed should accept it as a good idea.”

The combined watch will be piloted for six months in Denbigh and Sgt Hunter said posters are being distributed around the town in every pub and take away to enforce the warning.
