MOLD ALEX 1
DENBIGH TOWN 2

RESURGENT Denbigh Town made it back to back wins with their success at Alyn Park, reports Peter Glynn.

After an early scare, Denbigh took a half-time lead courtesy of a Jamie Hobson spot kick on 29 minutes.

A goal from Graham Randles levelled matters on 64 minutes before last-gasp Jamie Duffy headed the decider just before the final whistle.

Alex were quickest off the mark and after only two minutes should have registered.

A dazzling run by Terry Pughe down the right saw his perfect cross met beautifully by an incoming Owain Roberts, but somehow the big man hit the ball too sweetly and Town glovesman Azz Hughes blocked ball with a combination of belly and arm.

Denbigh dominated for long periods and created a number of opportunities - some could be considered clear-cut - but failed to find the target.

Stuart Vernon saw an effort gathered by Ryan Roberts and next Hobson pinged a ball to the feet of Tom Sharples who spanked one into Roberts’ bread-basket.

On 17 minutes Darren Cassidy, again fed by the deft Hobson, fired at goal from wide right and was in agony to see his effort rebound off the bar before the ball was ushered to safety.

For Mold Owain Roberts hit an effort wide after more work from Pughe but on 29 minutes the deadlock was broken in controversial circumstances.

Nice play from Vernon saw the ball threaded through to Cassidy, who went to ground under pressure from Brett Jones - possibly a little too easily.

Hobson planted the ball home to edge Denbigh ahead.

There was an ebb and flow that made the second stanza a good spectacle.

Town had the opening salvoes without being particularly threatening while Mold were happy to hit the visitors on the break.

But on 64 minutes the balance of the game shifted and deservedly, after a period of pressure, Mold were level.

Pughe seemed to waltz through a static Denbigh defence before playing in Graham Randles, who couldn’t miss from six yards.

Mold were suddenly at it and could, nay, should, have added another a moment later after pinball in the Denbigh six-yard box.

Darren Pritchard fired over and Owain Roberts’ effort was ruled offside after Randles played him in when he should have had a pop himself.

It was Mold’s best period, with Pughe pulling the strings.

And now the game swung once again.

Denbigh, having weathered the storm, began to ask questions of the Mold defence.

Jon Slater poked an effort at keeper Roberts when a square ball to Cassidy must have resulted in a goal.

Next Liam Jones played in Duffy whose effort was fly kicked to safety.

And then on 86 minutes came the deciding moment. Pressure in the Mold danger zone saw Duffy get his head to the ball five yards from goal and Denbigh had the points.
