RHOS AELWYD 2
CORWEN 1

TITLE favourites Rhos Aelwyd moved back to the top of the Wrexham Area League Premier Division standings with a narrow success against John James’ Corwen.

The unbeaten hosts benefited from an early goal as they overtook Chirk AAA in the table after their match at Hawarden was postponed.

It now looks a tricky proposition for Corwen to become champions this season, as they’re now 12 points adrift of top spot with some 13 matches left to play.

The prolific Tony Cann notched his 25th goal of the campaign to put Rhos into a third-minute lead.

Nefyn Davies doubled their account after he was able to turn in a close-range effort after a Dave McIntyre shot had rebounded back off the crossbar.

A handling effort inside the box by Kevin Scott was penalised and Calvin Davies gave Corwen a glimmer of hope, but Rhos Aelwyd successfully held out to secure their 10th victory of the season.

Elsewhere, Corwen Reserves had to show plenty of battling qualities to maintain their Reserves / Colts Division title hopes.

Simon Harrison’s side have been in fine form of late, but they were made to fight all the way for the points at home to New Brighton Villa Reserves.

James Davies and Dewi Edwards got the goals in a narrow 2-1 success.
