RUTHIN LADIES 6
RHYL LADIES 1

A STRONG Ruthin performance saw them make a return to winning ways versus Rhyl.

Fielding another strong team, Ruthin’s players working well together, moving the ball at speed, and switching the direction of play smoothly.

Ruthin started brightly and were soon on the scoreboard thanks to an excellent strike from captain Sian Edwards.

Rhyl withstood heavy pressure from Ruthin, however, when Lily Dewhurst made contact with a cross from the right the seasiders were unable to react to the early finish.

This propelled Ruthin forward and a well-executed short corner converted by Steph Bradley made it three.

When Rhyl broke late in the first half, despite some good “sagging” from Ruthin’s defence, the seasiders had greater numbers and were able to slip the ball past keeper Ruth Evans.

Ruthin continued to dictate the run of play and the pressure brought about goals for Claerwen Render and two more for Sian Edwards, completing her hat-trick.

Rhyl continued to concede numerous short corners but were extremely resilient in defence, preventing Ruthin from adding to their lead.

Ruthin were scheduled to play Welshpool on Sunday in the semi-final of the League Cup but Welshpool were unable to field a team and conceded the game, giving Ruthin a place in the final.
