BALA TOWN 1, NEWTOWN 1

WAS this a case of one point gained or two points lost for Bala Town in their attempts to safeguard a Super 12 spot for next season?

Colin Caton’s side let slip a one-goal advantage at home to Newtown on Tuesday night, but with fellow top-10 chasers Carmarthen Town losing out to The New Saints, Bala’s buffer over the Old Gold is now up to five points.

If Bala can claim the three points at Haverfordwest County on Sunday, they could well be within touching distance of securing that vital top-10 finish.

After a goalless first half on Tuesday, Bala managed to claim the lead just a minute after the restart.

Recent signing from Porthmadog Mike Thompson was the man on the scoresheet to give the home side the lead in front of a Maes Tegid crowd of 235.

However, there was to be no victory for the home faithful to celebrate as Newtown were back on level terms within five minutes.

Paul Roberts headed home a 55th minute equaliser from a Ross Stephens corner to make it 1-1.
