MARK Webster could be on the cusp of claiming his first ever PDC title after another successful weekend.
Seven days after reaching the last-eight of the German Darts Classic Players Championship, the Denbigh ace repeated the trick during last Saturday’s Players Championship event in Wigan.
Webster, the 31st seed, opened his campaign with a slender 6-5 success against Justin Pipe, followed by a 6-3 scoreline versus Robbie Newland.
In round three came a revenge victory by the same scoreline against Mark Walsh, while Webster’s third 6-3 scoreline came in the fourth round defeat of Nick Fullwell.
His quarter-final went the distance, but unfortunately for Webster Mark Dudbridge prevailed 6-5.
Dudbridge made his way through to the final, where he was beaten 6-0 by Phil “The Power” Taylor.
The 15-time world champion made it a double weekend success with a 6-0 final whitewash of Jamie Caven in Sunday’s UK Open qualifier.
For the second day in a row, Webster was knocked out by the eventual runner-up, with Caven winning their fourth round encounter 6-2.
Mark opened his campaign in comfortable fashion with early round successes versus Matt Padgett (6-3) and Michael Barnard (6-1), before Webster won his tense third round match with Steve Maish 6-5.
