A BOY of 11 was killed yesterday (Thursday, April 29)  in a crash that left his three-year-old sister fighting for her life.

The horrific accident, which claimed the life of Flint schoolboy Jordan Evans from Mancot, happened on a sliproad off the A55 near Northop.

The three-year-old girl is in a serious condition at Glan Clwyd Hospital, Bodelwyddan, after a red Vauxhall Corsa in which the pair were passengers crashed near the McDonald's and Holiday Inn site on the westbound carriageway between junctions 33 and 34.

The car's two other occupants, a 36-year-old woman suffering from neck injuries and an 18-year-old woman with a minor injury, were also taken to hospital after the crash just after 9.30am.

Firefighters from Buckley, Deeside and Wrexham spent more than an hour freeing the casualties from the vehicle.

The sliproad was closed until 2pm.

Jordan's headteacher at Flint's St Richard Gwyn Catholic High School, Flint, paid tribute to a year seven pupil with a 'cheeky smile'.

Derek Doran said: "Jordan was a lovely boy who joined the school in September. He was a very caring and supportive member of his class.

"His bubbly personality and cheeky smile made the room light up.

"He was a pleasure to teach and a great ambassador for his form, helping with assemblies and liturgy readings.

"Obviously at this time our thoughts and prayers are with his family, some of whom are seriously ill as a result of the accident."

North Wales Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident to contact them on 101, if in Wales, or 08456071001 (Welsh line) 08456071002 (English line).

Because the A55 isn't a motorway, it won't ever get the slip road lengths it requires, which is why this needless death could have been avoided. These ridiculously short slip roads are dangerous, and should be as long as the ones found at junctions, as they still require you to brake to a low speed.
