A MAN was killed and a woman injured after their two motorbikes were in a collision with a transit van near Bala.

North Wales Police are now appealing for witnesses following the fatal road traffic collision last Wednesday morning, June 16.

The crash happened just before 11am on a notoriously bad bend on the A494 at Bethel, around five miles from Bala.

The male rider of a Suzuki motorbike, Ian Richard Millard, 34, from Blacon was pronounced dead at the scene and the injured 32 year-old female rider of a Kawasaki model was flown to Wrexham Maelor Hospital with a suspected head injury.

It is believed the motorcyclists were travelling in the direction of Bala and the van towards Corwen when the accident happened.

A North Wales Ambulance Trust spokesman said: “We were called at 10.41am to a road traffic collision at Bethel, Bala between a van and a motorbike. Two ambulances, the North Wales Air Ambulance and a duty officer attended."

The road between Druid Lights, near Corwen and the A494 at Llandderfel was closed for some time while the emergency services investigated the scene and traffic was diverted along the B4401 from Corwen to Bala.

North West Wales coroners’ officers confirmed Mr Millard’s family had been informed and an inquest into his death had been opened and adjourned until a later date.
