A VALE of Clwyd festival has been labelled the 'best yet' by audiences who flocked to be entertained.

This year’s Ruthin Festival, held from June 28 to July 4, saw many events and performances including: Stars of the Vale, a jazz evening and its most popular event - Top Dre, on July 3, which saw a large crowd of people.

"The atmosphere on the square was relaxed and friendly, people were obviously enjoying the entertainment and the glorious weather," said Gruff Hughes, chairman of The Gwyl Rhuthun Festival committee.

Mr Hughes said the ban on glasses and glass bottles at this year event was 'very effective'.

"It was a pleasure when clearing the square at 8pm not to find any broken glass or empty bottles," he said.

"My thanks to the public for their wholehearted co-operation."

The Gwyl Rhuthun Festival committee said they were concerned the event would not take place - due to the reduction in grants available to them, but thanks to businesses and individuals who agreed to support the festival, the show did go on.
"This year more businesses and individuals than ever supported us," said Mr Hughes.

"This proves to us that the festival, especially Top Dre has earned its rightful place in Rhuthun’s calendar of events."

Mr Hughes also thanked the stewards and volunteers, who "ensured that the festival went without a hitch".

"The police also need to be thanked, their presence was effective and unobtrusive and looking at their faces during the festival I believe they enjoyed themselves."

He added: "There will be a festival next year, Top Dre will be held on Saint Peter’s Square, that is its home."
