SUPPORT independent businesses, retailers and service in and around Ruthin - with your own loyalty card.

The BroRhuthun loyalty card has been launched to encourage residents to use local shops and businesses.

The free card is currently being distributed to over 7,000 households in Ruthin and the Vale of Clwyd, with an additional 3,000 available later from participating businesses.

"The new BroRhuthun loyalty card aims to remind townsfolk and residents of the Vale that unless they want to lose their local shops and services, they need to use them," said Bro Rhuthun chairman Gavin Harris.

"With so many towns and cities struggling to keep their independent retailers, Ruthin has fared better than many through the downturn, and despite a handful of empty shops remaining, entrepreneurial 'green shoots' are appearing as a number of new shops have opened with more in the pipeline.”

Cardholders will need to register their cards before being kept informed of special offers from shops and businesses taking part.

Unlike saver or point loyalty cards, which give a set discount or accumulate values to spend, the BroRhuthun card will entitle cardholders to get a variety of tempting and ever-changing offers that suit the type of business.

Businesses that participate will benefit by being able to market themselves directly to local customers, both through the newsletter and visit Ruthin website that will list all the offers available.

"Visitors comment on what a great range of proper shops we still have and that we aren't dominated by bland chains,” added Mr Harris.

"But sometimes the allure of big chains elsewhere make Ruthin residents forget what is on their doorstep.

"By offering a little bit extra for local people we hope to remind them what they have here and as a community we need to support our own economy.”

With over 60 businesses already signed up and many more wishing to take part, there will be plenty of choice for cardholders.

If you are interested in getting a card or have a local business (either 01824 code or LL15) and would like to participate then visit www.visit Ruthin.com for further information.
