MAXIMUM points hauls are proving to be a pleasing habit for Ruthin Cricket Club.
For the third time in four matches Ruthin’s first team claimed a 10-0 points win, with the latest outcome coming from their visit to Castell Alun.
There’s no doubt that a few more big points gatherings over the next month or so from Ruthin will see the Division Three high-flyers glance nervously over their shoulders as the race for promotion hots up.
After being asked to have first use of the batting strip, Ruthin were indebted to the contribution of Steve Bryan-Jones.
The Ruthin opener made sure the innings didn’t lose its way as he top scored with a sparkling 77.
All of the Ruthin top-three did get going as Dafydd Roberts (14) and Bryn Bolton (34) ensured that the Memorial Park Fields side got off to a flying start, but credit to the Castell Alun bowlers for checking this surge and at least giving the home side a sniff of a chance.
Corey Jones (3-33) and Jason Lloyd (3-44) caused much of the damage, while Ruthin’s only two remaining double-figure knocks were compiled by Rhys Hughes (11) and Llyr Williams (10 not out).
Ruthin’s 45 overs yielded 197 all out - and thanks to the bowling benefits provided by Shay Tudor and Chris Scotland, Castell Alun never got close to threatening their opponents.
Tudor gave a titanic showing with ball in hand, ending with cut out and keep figures of 12-4-10-6.
Scotland’s 3-14 haul in 11 overs was also majestic, but he had to take a secondary role to Tudor.
