BERSHAM 55
DENBIGH 58-2
(Denbigh won by eight wickets)

GETHIN Williams had them on the ropes and Alec Lewis knocked ’em down!

Top dogs Denbigh strengthened their grip on pole position in Division One with a comprehensive triumph at home to Bersham, thanks to a fantastic bowling performance.

With regular captain Ben Wilcox-Jones unavailable, stand-in skipper John Lee Rowlands guided Denbigh to their 10th victory of a profitable summer - and the Ystrad Road side’s lead over third-placed Conwy in the promotion stakes is now a formidable 54 points.

It is going to take something truly astonishing over the closing six games to deny Denbigh a place in the top-two.

Bersham openers Daniel Williams (22) and Neil Thomas (12) were the only visiting batsmen to reach double figures as the home bowlers impressively held sway.

Opening bowler Gethin Williams caught the eye early on to account for much of the top order, claiming a fantastic 3-4 from his seven overs.

Alec Lewis then destroyed the visitors’ lower order, bowling a delivery over 10 overs and securing 5-7 in the process.

The remaining wickets to tumble fell to skipper Rowlands and Stuart Griffiths, while spinner Harrison Jones didn’t concede a run from his two-over cameo.

All of this meant that Denbigh had to better a score of just 55 for the win and they did it in comfortable fashion, requiring fewer than nine overs.

Stuart Griffiths (26 not out) and Harrison Jones (16 not out) effected a speedy conclusion.
