LOCAL 14-year-olds Dylan Kerfoot-Robson (Rhos-On-Sea CC) and Gwyn Lovibond (Rhyl CC) met again for battle in Sunday’s Preston Grand Prix meeting in Preston City Centre.
There was little between them in the U-14s’ 20-minute race round a crowd-lined 1km course.
St Asaph’s Kerfoot-Robson finished third and Lovibond, of Dyserth, made a big effort in vain for two laps to try to get across to a group containing the winner, but still had enough left in the tank to get fourth place.
Triple Welsh champion Sol Kerfoot-Robson was a victor in the U-10 race.
Justin McIlveen (Rhos-On-Sea CC) was quickest in the Rhyl CC/VC Melyd 10-mile time trial last week, which incorporated the local 10-mile championship.
McIlveen clocked 21-27 and Mike Cummins (VC Melyd) was second in 22-21 to take that senior title, with Prestatyn’s Gary Houlston second in 23-23.
Rhyl CC’s best rider was Martin Austin with 24-26 in third of the championship qualifiers.
All riders recorded average speeds of 20mph or above - and in McIlveen’s case it was 29.5mph
