THINGS are just champion for a local golfer.
The winner of Denbigh Golf Club’s ladies’ 36-hole club championships for 2010 is Claerwen Render.
New club champion Claerwen, who is a resident of Denbigh and a teacher at Ruthin’s Ysgol Brynhyfryd, won with a gross score of 158 for a 10-shot margin of victory.
All of this means she has regained the title which she won in 2008.
Claerwen played off a handicap of eight, which was reduced two days later after another victory, this time in the Ray Barker Cup.
This event is played for by the ladies who have won a club medal competition in the previous 12 months.
She won the club and medal competition with a nett round of 69, which sees her handicap being reduced from eight down to seven.

CATHERINE Parton has enjoyed plenty of swinging and putting successes over recent weeks.
Competing at Ruthin-Pwllglas Golf Club, Catherine edged her way to a one stroke margin of victory in the GUW medal challenge bowl competition.
Things were more comfortable for her in the Marston Stableford Cup, though, which she claimed thanks to a magnificent seven-point winning margin.
