DOES anybody think Ruthin will use September to hold a promotion party?
A couple of months ago and this idea would have seemed ludicrous, but not any more!
In-form Ruthin kept up the pressure on the Division Three leading lights courtesy of a comprehensive win against Marchwiel Wrexham.
It was so nearly another maximum points win for the Memorial Park Fields outfit, however nine points away from home is still a great return and the latest haul means that Ruthin are just nine points adrift of the promotion spots with five games left to play.
Ruthin lost the toss and were invited to bat first in a game that was reduced to 40 overs per side.
They lost a wicket early on, but Gwern Llwyd Owain maintained his fantastic form and never really looked in trouble.
He was supported by Dafydd Roberts (17), Tim Green (15), Rhys Hilditch (12) and Rhys Jones (10).
Ruthin would probably have settled for a score in the region of 140, but number eight batsman Ben Syme (39 not out) came in towards the end and helped to push the score to a more than solid 181-7.
Gwern Llwyd Owain was out in the last over for a superb 86, his sixth score in excess of 50 this year.
Jerry Wellens and David Jones each picked up a couple of wickets for the home side.
In response Marchwiel Wrexham were always up against it, especially when Shay Tudor cheaply accounted for three of the top order batsmen.
Owen Hughes bowled the dangerous Chris Hemmings and took three further wickets.
A runout and two wickets for Ben Syme saw Marchwiel Wrexham bowled out for 85 in 31 overs.
Owen Hughes finished with 4-20.
