ST ASAPH 50
LLANDUDNO 51-0
(Llandudno won 25-0)
THE Saints were stunned by a champion display from the North Wales Cricket League’s top dogs.
Chasing a fifth successive Premier Division title, Llandudno were in irresistible form at Elwy Grove Park as they raced to a thumping 10-wicket victory.
It was very much a case of Llandudno on the rebound with the league leaders still stinging from the previous weekend’s loss against Pontblyddyn.
With St Asaph skipper Dave North opting to bat first, the opening wicket fell in Jack Rimmington’s first over.
Llandudno’s Gordon Kerr left his second over on a hat-trick after dismissing Australian opener Trevor Bauer and then having Chris Campbell caught behind by stand-in keeper Sam Rimmington.
Jack Rimmington then took another wicket in the following over, as did Kerr, which left the Saints in lots of trouble on 3-5 after five overs.
Rimmington and Kerr continued to cause plenty of damage and St Asaph were 34-9 when Andrew Bellis’ 29-ball innings ended.
The last pair of Paul Fleming and Matthew Hulse hit out and scored exclusively in boundaries as they edged the final total up to 50.
Hulse scored eight and Fleming top scored with his innings of 12 not out.
Llandudno used just two bowlers, with Kerr bagging 4-21 and Rimmington in his place thanks to figures of 6-24.
The seasiders had a maximum of 88 overs available to get the runs, but in the end they required less than seven of them.
Visiting skipper Duncan Midgley struck out and scored 48 not out off 21 balls, helping his side to a match winning 51-0.
