A WREXHAM family say they are paying the price after the council resurfaced the road outside their home because their driveway now keeps flooding.
The Berrys say the level of tarmac put down on Homestead Lane means the road surface now rises above their driveway. As a consequence when rain falls, water flows onto their land and causes flooding.
Florrie Berry said there is also a section where rain water gathers on the roadside which she says could be highly dangerous in the winter.
She said: “The freezing weather will turn it into ice, making a hazard for vehicles.
Also children walking on their way to school will have to go in the middle of the road in order to get past, that will make them vulnerable to traffic. It could be a death trap.
We don’t blame the workers who did the tarmacing, they did a good job. The matter is the council’s responsibility and needs to be sorted out.”
Alan Guest, divisional manager environment and project development at Wrexham
Council, said discussions were held before the work was carried out.
“The problem the Berrys have was anticipated by contractors resurfacing the road and a solution was agreed with the family in early August,” Mr Guest said.
“However, the Berrys are now insisting that those works are extended to their gateway which, if carried out, will result in unnecessary work and expense for the council.
“Contractors will be more than happy to proceed with the initial agreed works if the Berrys will allow access to their property. A recent inspection of Homestead Lane during a heavy downpour found there were no surface water problems.”
