MACHYNLLETH 2
CAERWYS 1
WITH six players missing from the team that beat St Asaph in midweek, Alex Vaughan had to call on several reserve team players to make up a squad.
This was a match that Caerwys should have won but two controversial goals saw the home team progress to the next round of the Welsh Trophy.
In the second minute Machynlleth took the lead despite a strong case for offside, but the goal was allowed to stand.
The visitors went close to equalising through Gareth Henley before the nippy winger created a goal for Simon Mackie who tapped in from close range.
Mackie was then brought down in the box but Henley saw his spot kick saved.
After the break the rain continued to fall and facing a strong wind Caerwys looked happy to settle for extra time with neither side creating much in front of goal.
Then, with the last kick of the tie, the young Machynlleth substitute found himself unmarked on the edge of the box.
With the Caerwys defenders screaming for offside the winger crossed the ball into the area where the visitors thought another player was offside and he netted the winner.
