Battling Ruthin pay the price for being a man short

FOUR points from two Cymru Alliance games is a great return for Ruthin Town, who can’t quite manage to end matches with all 11 players on the pitch.

For the second weekend running, Adie Jones’ side had a man sent off, but for long spells they looked like coming away from Penrhyncoch with three points.

With 20 minutes remaining, Ruthin found themselves two goals to the good at Cae Baker.

The visitors had Joe Garner sent off after just half-an-hour of play for a second yellow card - and this season so far Ruthin have played for only an hour with 11 men on the pitch!

Seven days earlier Miles Todd was red carded for handball after half-an-hour at Llangefni Town.

By the point of the sending-off, Ruthin were a goal up thanks to Mike Garrod’s first-half effort.

One became two just eight minutes into the second period thanks to a goal from ex-Llangollen Town player Aaron Aby, but with 20 minutes left to play Josh Hatrick’s effort set up a grandstand finish.

Ruthin couldn’t quite hold out and Penrhyncoch were able to preserve their unbeaten start thanks to Josh Shaw’s late leveller.

Team boss Adie Jones told the Ruthin Town website: “It was another great performance away from home achieved once again with ten men for an hour.”

He added: “I thought the lads applied themselves very well down to ten men and they struggled to break us down and only for a lucky deflection when the ball was cleared by Mike and rebounded off their player and into the bottom corner to get them back in the game we would have seen the game out.

“On the day we were better than them man-for-man and if we had played the full game with 11 players I’m in no doubt we would have taken all three points.”

Penrhyncoch boss Kevin Jenkins said: “I thought we showed great character to come back from two down and when we equalised with 20 minutes to go I thought we might go on and sneak the win, but there are no easy games at this level and to be fair a draw was probably a fair result.”
