CORWEN RESERVES 0
RUTHIN TOWN RESERVES 1
IT’S now two wins out of two for Ruthin Town Reserves after their hard-fought Friday night victory over Corwen Reserves.
Ruthin were boosted by first teamers Mark Entwistle and Mathew Davies in midfield and began strongly, pinning the home side back in the opening 20 minutes.
They failed to take the chances that came their way and Corwen gradually began to get a foothold.
Ryan Harden’s side suffered a blow when the previous weekend’s hat-trick hero Elgan Hughes was forced to leave the field with a knee injury.
Substitute Alan Davies had an immediate chance to put Ruthin ahead but took a heavy touch when clean through on goal.
Ruthin began the second half as they had the first and thought they had taken the lead through captain Chris Williams, but their celebrations were cut short by an offside decision.
Mathew Davies had a great chance to put them in front soon after but a goal was coming and on the hour Tom Daulby headed home a fine right wing cross from Jordan MacCarter.
It should have been two moments later when Alan Davies missed a close-range header.
Both teams had to play the last 20 minutes with 10 men after Corwen had a man sent off for a challenge which left Ruthin player-manager Harden unable to continue, having already used all three subs.
Also in the Wrexham Area League Reserves’ Division, Llangollen Town’s second string had to be satisfied with a share of the spoils having seemingly been heading for victory at home to Llay Welfare Reserves.
The home side looked to in command with a 3-1 lead, but back came Llay to salvage a 3-3 result.
Strikes from John Williams, Dean Hoggins and Steve Shaw had Llangollen in the lead, but Mike Hughes - who was later dismissed - and Keith Evans secured a point.
Bala Town Reserves stretched their unbeaten league run to two matches on the back of the 0-0 draw at Lex XI Reserves.
